At Sutton-on-Sea Community Primary School, inclusion is at the heart of everything that we do.

We believe that all children – whatever their needs, abilities or backgrounds – should learn, play and grow together as part of one school community.

Our ethos ‘We believe everyone can achieve,’ guides our commitment to ensuring that pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) participate fully in school life alongside their peers.

Inclusive Practice

All pupils, including those with SEND, have access to:

• The same broad and balanced curriculum, adapted where necessary to meet individual needs.
• Whole-school events, such as assemblies, performances, theme days and celebrations.
• Extra-curricular clubs and enrichment activities, with support or adjustments in place where needed.
• Educational visits and residential trips, with risk assessments and reasonable adjustments to ensure safety and participation.
• Sports and physical education, adapted to each child’s ability and supported by trained staff if necessary.

We believe that inclusion enriches everyone’s experience – helping all children to develop empathy, cooperation and understanding.

Removing Barriers to Participation

We make reasonable adjustments to remove barriers so that every pupil can join in confidently and safely.  This might include:

• Providing additional adult support or adapted equipment for specific activities.
• Offering alternative formats or tasks so every child can contribute.
• Adjusting the pace, language or environment of these activities to meet sensory or physical needs.
• Using visual schedules, social stories or pre-visit preparation to help pupils feel confident before new experiences.
• Ensuring transport, venues and facilities for trips are accessible to all.

Supporting Independence and belonging

We aim to support pupils with SEND in ways that promote:

• Independence – encouraging children to develop confidence and self esteem.
• Belonging – ensuring they feel valued as equal members of the school community.
• Peer Relationships – fostering friendships and positive social interactions through class groupings, playtimes, and collaborative learning.

Our staff model inclusion and celebrate diversity, ensuring every pupils feels that their contributions matter.

Working in Partnership

We work closely with parents, carers and external professionals to plan adjustments and ensure pupils can safely and successfully participate in all aspects of school life.  Together, we ensure that each child’s participation plan is personalized and effective.
