Identifying the Need for Specialist Equipment or Facilities

When a pupil is identified as needing additional or specialist equipment to support their learning or physical needs, this is facilitated through the Graduated Approach.  The process involves:

• Assessing the child’s needs
• Consulting with parents and carers
• Seeking advice from specialist professionals
• Deciding on the appropriate resources or adaptations

These may include equipment for:

• Physical and sensory needs (e.g. writing slopes, wobble cushions, fidgets, resistance bands, pencil grips, specialist seating, height-adjustable tables).
• Hearing or Visual Impairments (e.g. hearing aids, magnifiers, coloured overlays, enlarged print).
• Communication and Interaction Needs (e.g. visual supports, communication boards, technology).
• Emotional Regulation and Wellbeing (e.g. sensory toolkits, calm spaces, weighted blankets).
