We make every effort to ensure that pupils with disabilities are not treated less favourably than other pupils, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015.

Our Commitment

We actively promote a culture of inclusion by:

• Ensuring all pupils have equal access to learning, enrichment opportunities and school life.
• Making reasonable adjustments to teaching, resources and the school environment to remove barriers and participation.
• Ensuring that staff understand their duties under the Equality Act 2010 through regular training and updates.
• Encouraging a school community that celebrates diversity, understanding and kindness.
• Publishing an Equality Statement on our school website.

 

Steps We Take

We take practical and proactive steps to prevent any pupil with a disability from being treated less favourably:

• Admissions: No child is refused a place because of a disability or additional need.
• Curriculum Access: Lessons are adapted so that all pupils can participate fully in class activities.
• Physical Access: The school building, classrooms and facilities are reviewed regularly for accessibility.
• Extra-Curricular Activities: Clubs, trips and sporting events are inclusive and adapted where needed to meet pupil’s needs.
• Communication: We ensure that information for parents and pupils is available in accessible formats as required (e.e. large print, visual aids, simplified text).
• Staff Awareness: All staff receive training on equality, SEND and supporting pupils with disabilities.
• Anti-bullying and Behaviour Policies: These explicitly include protection for pupils with SEND or disabilities and promote understanding and respect among peers.

 

Working Together

We work closely with:

• Parents and Carers – to understand each child’s individual needs and ensure they are met.
• External Professionals – who advise on strategies and reasonable adjustments.
• Governors – to monitor compliance with the Equality Act and review school practice.

 

Continuous Improvement

We review our Accessibility Plan (2025-2028) annually to ensure that:

• The Curriculum, environment and information are fully accessible.
• Staff continue to develop their understanding of inclusion and equality.
• No child is ever disadvantaged because of a disability.

Our ultimate goal is for every child to feel valued, included and capable of achieving their best, regardless of their needs.
