How we adapt the curriculum

Teachers plan lessons with the needs of all learners in mind.  Adaptations may include:

• Differentiated teaching and learning tasks that match the child’s ability and learning style.
• Flexible grouping, allowing children to work with peers or in small supported groups.
• Use of visual aids, word banks, structured supports to aid understanding.
• Chunking information into smaller, manageable steps.
• Pre-teaching or over-learning key vocabulary and concepts.
• Use of assistive technology such as laptops, tablets or reading software.
• Alternative recording methods, including oral responses, diagrams or digital work.
• Scaffolds to enable children to communicate their learning effectively
• Gradual release approaches to ensure high expectations and to foster independence

Where they are in place, EHCPs or individual pastoral or learning plans guide the adaptations made for individuals in each subject.
