Becoming a Times Table Rock Star!
At Sutton-on-Sea Community Primary School, we use Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) to help children develop quick, accurate recall of multiplication and division facts.
TTRS is a fun, engaging online platform that turns times tables practice into an exciting challenge. The more children practise, the faster and more confident they become. Strong times tables knowledge is an essential building block for success in mathematics and supports learning across the curriculum.
Why Are Times Tables Important?
When it comes to times tables, speed and accuracy matter. The more multiplication facts a child can recall automatically, the easier it becomes to tackle more complex calculations such as:
Multiplication and division
Fractions
Percentages
Ratio and proportion
Problem solving
To become a true Times Table Rock Star, children aim to answer multiplication facts up to 12 × 12 in less than three seconds.
Like professional musicians who spend hours practising their instruments, children become successful by practising regularly. We know that short, frequent practice sessions are far more effective than one long session each week.
Our Expectations
At Sutton-on-Sea Community Primary School:
- Children use TTRS twice a week in school
- We ask children to practise at least twice a week at home
- Sessions can be short – 5 to 10 minutes is enough to make a real difference
- Regular practice helps times tables facts move into long-term memory for quick recall
How Parents and Carers Can Help
Parents and carers play a vital role in helping children succeed with TTRS.
You can support your child by:
- Encouraging them to log in regularly
- Praising their effort and perseverance
- Asking them to show you their progress
- Providing a quiet space for practice
- Celebrating improvements in speed and accuracy
Your encouragement helps children stay motivated and confident as they work towards becoming Times Table Rock Stars.
